Senior Community in California
from:The senior community in California is very similar to that of any senior community anywhere in the country. Here, as in other parts of the United States, new homes as well as condominiums and manufactured homes are being constructed in hopes of luring the growing senior market into the state.
The senior community in California is, in some respects, more varied than any senior community elsewhere in the country. The difference is the state. Few states have the attractions found in California: San Francisco, Los Angeles, the beaches, the mountains, the wineries and more. These may be attractions that bring many visitors to California, but there are many other attractions that are more meaningful for the senior community in California. Those mentioned here are listed in alphabetical order for the name of the community.
Cholame is the location of the James Dean Death Site. It is a metal monument, wrapped around a tree. Not far from this site is the spot where James Dean died of a broken neck in a car crash in 1955. The local diner, one of the only buildings in town, reportedly also has a speeding ticket that Dean received hours before the crash.
In Cathedral City, one can find the location of Sonny Bono’s grave. Many seniors will recognize Mr. Bono as the first husband singing partner of Cher.
The Geyser known as “Old Faithful” can be found in Calistoga. This site is for members of the senior community in California who would like California to be known more for its natural attractions, rather than some of the states more colorful attractions. Calistoga is also home to the Petrified Forest.
Those more senior members of the senior community in California can visit Escondido, the home of the Lawrence Welk Museum. The museum contains the world's largest champagne glass, an icon that will be meaningful to those seniors who remember the orchestra leader. Those almost seniors who were raised listening to the Polkas, waltzes and other music of their parents may also remember the champagne bubbles associated with Mr. Welk.
Some members of the senior community in California can tell others that the Hollywood wax museum has closed its doors. Many seniors might have liked to see it but not enough of them, or the younger members of the population, wanted to attend such attractions, so the doors closed in 2005.
For those interested in history, the Reagan Presidential Library is found in Simi Valley. Anyone interested in Reagan’s Presidency will find this attraction a must see.
Last alphabetically, but certainly not least in the minds of the Trekkie senior community in California, are the rocks in Santa Clarita. It was on these rocks that Captain James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise battled the Gorn and saved humanity.
